The City of Eagle Grove has a Mayor/Council form of government with a City Administrator and six council members. The city is divided into four wards, with one council member elected from each ward and two elected at-large. All residents of the City may vote for the at large council members.

The Mayor is elected by the voters for a term of two years, and the council is elected for four year terms. The council meets in regular session on the first and third Monday every month at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers at City Hall, but can meet for special meetings at any time or place.
